3D Print

Image
For this project we had to collaborate our hollow form designs with a partner and 3D print it. These are the sketches I made when collaborating me and Sophia's designs: And This is the Model we decided to create: We took fish design from my hollow form project and combined it with Sophia's double vase design. Finally this is the creation of our model: Overall I'm Pretty satisfied with the result. It was a risky design to self support and I'm honestly just happy that it was able to print period. One side of the print had a lot of issue, but the otherwise was almost perfect. Hopefully when we get to print it again it will end up better.

Coaster finale

Image
This is the coaster I made:   This is the design that I was aiming for: here is the laser-cutter setup: And this is the result: Since I wanted to make the crushed can look realistic, I decided to spray paint it. before doing so, I decided to test out the colours on a spare piece of acrylic. I applied adhesive spray the acrylic first, followed by a couple layers of spray paint, then a polishing spray to create a better finish. Once I was satisfied, I spray painted my coaster. This is the final result: I am relatively satisfied with the results produced by the laser cutter. However, I was hoping for more depth when it came to engraving details. This would have made the cracks and curves of the can more noticeable. I also found that these crevices disappeared even more after a couple layers of spray paint. If I could go back and change something about this process, I would choose not to use the polish. Overall, I think that using it did the most damage to my details and...

Coaster Refined

This the crushed can coaster I decided to pursue: I spent a lot of time on the top off the can, making sure every detail was extruded by the right amount. The planning towards this can also took up a lot of time. I didn't want to make a mistake in rhino and have to redo everything, so I decide to sketch out my design in more detail and measure out everything before I started. For the base of the can I used red plastic, and for the top I used grey paint. I decided I would paint the details on the base of the can, as laster cutting it might be more difficult.

Coaster Sketches

These are the 12 coasters I designed: I'm excited about the crushed can design (6), as well as the tea bag (8). I think it would be cool to see the crushed can come to life using a laser cutter and what boundaries I can push to make it as realistic as possible. I also think the tea bag has a lot of potential design-wise, especially with the grooves and curves. It would also be interesting to see how it turns out based on what materials we will be able to use.  Another design that would be fun to create is the drum set (2). That design would be more difficult to create, but the end result would be interesting to see.

Underwater Castle Refined

Image
These are the final renders of my Underwater Castle:  The original Castle compared to the refined Castle: In this refinement, I experimented with more colours, materials, and added a landscape around the castle. I added seaweed made out of plastic to give it more shine. I also added hills of sand surrounding the castle to imitate the sea floor (Stoneware material was used for this). For the ground plane, I used water for reflectivity. The pathway I added is made out of crackle material. I tried using something else like terrazzo light gray polished, but I found that the texture was too small and overpowering.  Lighting wise, I decided to use two spotlights to highlight the fish, and a linear light down the middle of the tallest tower. I did have some trouble adjusting the light intensity. It seemed like every time I turned it down, it wouldn't make any difference. However, my object properties tab did disappear... so that probably didn't help my case...
