This is the coaster I made:
This is the design that I was aiming for:
here is the laser-cutter setup:
And this is the result:
Since I wanted to make the crushed can look realistic, I decided to spray paint it. before doing so, I decided to test out the colours on a spare piece of acrylic. I applied adhesive spray the acrylic first, followed by a couple layers of spray paint, then a polishing spray to create a better finish.
Once I was satisfied, I spray painted my coaster. This is the final result:
I am relatively satisfied with the results produced by the laser cutter. However, I was hoping for more depth when it came to engraving details. This would have made the cracks and curves of the can more noticeable. I also found that these crevices disappeared even more after a couple layers of spray paint. If I could go back and change something about this process, I would choose not to use the polish. Overall, I think that using it did the most damage to my details and unfortunately I was unable to predict this because my test sample did not have any engravings.
